Member Engagement
This project aims to assess the various roles that members can play and to identify training and development requirements to support them.
What did we set out to achieve?
- To identify the various roles members can play (with a focus on the non-executive member)
- Identify the skills members would need to enable them to develop these roles, forming part of a Personal Development Action Plan
- Identify the resources and structures (e.g. members’ websites) which need to be in place to ensure that members can influence the decision-making process
- Identify the skill-set requirements of individual cabinet members
- Review the constitutional structures to ensure that they are appropriate to changing roles and needs of members and the communities
What have we achieved so far?
- Member questionnaires have been returned and analysed, and information gaps have been identified
- Focus Groups have been arranged to collect this additional information
How can your council benefit?
Our next step is to hold a second focus group, following poor attendance on 14 May as a result of the European and County Council Elections.
We are planning an event for MKOB councillors to look at emerging trends from recent workshops. If you would like to be involved, or would like to find out more about this project, please email Suzanne.Batchelor@Oxfordshire.gov.uk.
