Berkshire Procurement and Shared Services Unit
The BPSSU is a small unit serving the six Berkshire Unitary authorities. Each year it aims to deliver cashable savings by smarter collaborative procurement.
The unit works with the Thames Valley Procurement Forum, which has a complementary programme of collaborative procurements outside social care and better suited to the “lead authority” approach.
What did we set out to achieve?
- To work collaboratively to make savings in the area of social care residential costs
- To undertake a health-funded project
- To implement processes for better energy invoice checking and analysis of consumption data
What have we achieved so far?
- Made savings in several key projects through collaborative working, including collaborative energy procurement and negotiation of LD residential care costs using the IESE Care Funding Calculator
- Delivered £1.2M cashable savings to the six authorities
How can your council benefit?
The work of the BPSSU is managed by the Efficiency Champions group, who can be contacted through Geoff Reynolds at geoff.reynolds@bracknell-forest.gov.uk.
