Shared Lives
This underused and undervalued service type offers care long-term accommodation and support, daytime care, kinship and respite care for all user groups, along with step-down and step-up care for people with mental health needs or rehabilitation needs. A highly cost- effective and high quality service which is currently under-utilised.
What did we set out to achieve?
- A self-assessment tool for shared lives schemes to determine focus of development
- Four to six pilot sites in the south east supported to expand and improve,
- Savings to authorities of up to 60% on residential care, and supported living
- A range of highly personalised services spanning all user groups
- Improved service delivery quality for Local Authorities
- Better outcomes for service users
What have we achieved so far?
- Research report into cost, quality and spread of this service.
- Development of a business case to support investment decisions and expansion of schemes
- Focus group work to determine the key ingredients in a high quality service
- Masterclasses underway to support 6 x SE authorities expand their service
